Utility Aid is proud to have officially opened its new Blackpool office, marking an exciting milestone in the company’s continued growth and long-term commitment to supporting charities and communities across the UK.

The official opening took place on Thursday 6 August, with the Mayor of Blackpool, Councillor Danny Scott, and the Mayoress, Councillor Michele Scott, joining colleagues, local charities, community organisations and partners to celebrate the occasion.

The new office represents more than a new workplace. It reflects Utility Aid’s continued investment in Blackpool and its ambition to grow its presence in the town by creating new employment opportunities as the business continues to expand.

Chief Executive Officer Giles Hankinson said:

“Opening our Blackpool office is an important step for Utility Aid as we continue to grow our business and invest in the communities we serve. Blackpool has been home to part of our team for some time, and this new office gives us the space to continue expanding, creating new jobs and welcoming more talented people to our growing team.

As a business dedicated to supporting charities and not-for-profit organisations, it felt right that our opening should also celebrate the incredible work taking place across the local community. We want to build meaningful relationships with local organisations, support their work wherever we can and play an active role in Blackpool for many years to come.

I was incredibly moved by the stories the Mayor shared with us about Elliot’s Place and Homeward Bound. Elliot’s Place was created in memory of Elliot Taylor, who tragically died by suicide in 2020, and provides vital mental health support for young men. Homeward Bound carries out fantastic work to support animal welfare across the local community.

Elliot’s Place particularly resonated with me, as my eldest son’s closest school friend took his own life at the age of 30. Truly heartbreaking. As the quote goes, “suicide is a permanent solution for what is often a temporary problem” and far too many young men like Elliot fail to get the support they need when they need it. If Elliot’s Place and other charities like them can save one life, then their purpose has been fulfilled. 

We’re proud to support both charities through donations of £5,000 to Elliot’s Place and £2,500 to Homeward Bound. We hope these contributions will help them continue the incredible work they do for people and animals across Blackpool.”

The Mayor officially opened the office with a ribbon-cutting ceremony after addressing guests alongside Giles Hankinson.

“It is a pleasure to officially open the Utility Aid offices in Blackpool and to hear about all the help and support which they provide to charities, assisting them to navigate the complex process for securing the best utility deals, making their scarce resources stretch as far as possible and taking away the headache of navigating the contracting process. The support they provide to the charity sector is invaluable. Donation made to the Mayor’s charities, Elliot’s Place and Homeward Bound”.

Throughout the day, local charity representatives had the opportunity to meet the Utility Aid team, network with fellow organisations and receive free utility bill checks from Utility Aid’s energy experts. These sessions helped charities better understand their utility costs, identify potential savings and make informed decisions about their energy contracts.

As part of the celebrations, Utility Aid made a donation to the charities, helping to support the valuable work the organisation carries out every day.

Supporting charities is at the heart of everything Utility Aid does. Through the Utility Aid Foundation, the company helps fund projects that make a positive difference to communities across the UK, with every eligible customer contract contributing towards charitable giving. The opening of the Blackpool office reflects this ongoing commitment to creating meaningful social impact alongside business growth.

For more than two decades, Utility Aid has helped charities, schools, housing associations and other not-for-profit organisations reduce their utility costs, allowing them to direct more funding towards the services that matter most.

As Utility Aid continues to grow, the Blackpool office will play an important role in supporting customers across the UK while creating new career opportunities within the local area.
